There is Cherry wood; it is a hard wood with a distinctive color that makes it a plus to the office décor. Lauan is another hard wood used in office tables; it is preferred due to its resemblance to the mahogany hardwood. Closet Organizers

Whether you’re a neatness freak or a naturally disorganized person, an avid collector or prefer a minimalist approach, your closet needs should be tailored to your lifestyle, budget and personality. Custom closets are the ideal solution, but not all of us can afford them. If you’ve moved into an apartment or house which already has built-in closets, there’s not much you can do. Ready-built closets or mass-produced closets are not really the best option, but if you’re stuck with them, you still need to keep your stuff well-organized, accessible, safe, dust-free and well-aired. Quite often, your closet may be a large one, but it may be badly-designed. This leaves you with lots of room but your things are still all over the place.
Before purchasing a closet organizer, it’s important to keep some factors in mind:

  • Motive: You may want additional space to arrange your things neatly, or keep them organized in a particular way. You may want protection and safety for your valuables, keep your expensive clothes, designer shoes and bags safe and dust-free or you may require space to organize the different kinds of apparel you require for work, leisure, different seasons or time of day. Based on these factors, you can decide whether you need more shelving, hanger space or a complete kit.
  • Budget: Closet organizers are available to suit a variety of needs and budgets. If you want a quick, low-cost, functional solution you can pick an off-the-shelf, easy to assemble organizer made of affordable, lightweight materials. However, if you want something classy, sturdy and attractive, you can select a more expensive system.
  • Durability: If you’re on a temporary assignment, or you move home frequently, a temporary organizer that’s easy to install would be your best bet. With newborns or seniors in the house, visitors or guests, temporary storage needs become the focus. Hence, you may not require a long-lasting, permanent solution. A wire closet organizer that needs to be locked into place is preferable in such cases, rather than a sturdier one which needs to be assembled and screwed into the walls.
  • Fit: Match the organizer to the dimensions, looks and general theme of your closets and room. Select your closet organizer according to the kind of things you own. E.g. if you have more bags and shoes or you need to access different things during different times of day etc, you can select the right kind of closet organizer.

Importance Of Wood In Construction

When using other materials like concrete and stone in construction you can’t help but wonder about the environmental aspects of deriving them. Both have to be mined which, if done according to environmental norms, can have a significantly less impact than if they were to be sourced though non-eco-friendly methods. However, the fact that they must be mined and processed means that plenty of energy must be utilized, huge quantities of water are needed, and the pollution from plants can destroy water bodies and leach into soil.

With wood, the only processes required are felling and treating it to withstand infestation by insects and rot caused by water. It’s an inherently green material and even its processing and treatment does not yield massive amounts of pollution or require a large supply of energy.

Today, wood costs more than what our forefathers would have paid. The demand is exceedingly high thanks to booming construction and despite the utilization of concrete, engineered wood and stone. It will also continue to be in demand whether in virgin form or reclaimed because there’s just no other material that offers the same benefits.

Unlike other building materials, wood is versatile. It can be crafted according to design requirements and is cheaper to work on, has a lot of aesthetic appeal which pushes up the value of a house (if properly maintained) and is also the primary component of engineered wood which is itself enjoying huge popularity.

In cold regions where concrete and stone provide no thermal benefits, wood remains the only choice. The addition of cladding and drywall helps turn wood-based structures into fire-retardant and fire-resistant buildings despite the proneness of wood to fire damage.

Once it outlives its usefulness in a structure, wood can be recycled into a variety of products for numerous applications. An emerging class of the population with green aspirations prefers to salvage old timber for constructing new houses, effectively lengthening the life of wood. And with more people opting to settle down in smaller houses that same wood can be used to construct tiny houses and even micro houses together with recycled steel, particle board and engineered wood.

Flooring, beams, window frames, banisters, posts and moldings are some of the components catered by wood. All-wood houses can be constructed but are expensive which is why most opt to use it in select applications. An added advantage is that you can choose to use a range of wood types including imported timber. Not only does it turn a structure into an extremely appealing work of art but it can increase the listing price in case you decide to sell.

Damp Proofing

Condensation is the only cause of damp that you can partially manage. Here are some tips:

  • • Produce Less Moisture in Your Home. There is always some moisture in the air but adding to the amount will only increase the likelihood of damp. Dry clothes outside instead of on the radiator, have the windows open when bathing and showering and keep lids on the pans or use a ventilator when cooking.
  • • Ventilate your Home. Keeping windows slightly ajar can help to reduce the natural moisture that occurs from breath. Close the kitchen and bathroom doors when these rooms are in use and open the windows accordingly. Leave space between furniture and the walls to allow air to circulate. Investing in a dehumidifier is also a great way to remove moisture from your home.
  • • Heat, Insulate and Draught-Proof your Home. The warmer your home, the less likely the presence of condensation. Keep your home heated as much as you can and install insulation and draught-proofing measures for the loft, walls and windows to keep your home warmer for longer. Double glazed windows are another effective option.

If your building has a history of or is suffering from a damp problem, it’s a good idea to start alleviating the situation before it spirals out of control. Damp proofing most often requires a professional hand and depending on the type of damp situation, it could involve one or more of these measures:

  • Damp Proof Course: This is the course most often taken for cases of rising damp. The process involves drilling holes into the brick of the property’s internal walls and injecting the structure with a damp-proofing fluid to lessen the movement of water through the wall’s capillaries. The course acts as a barrier to moisture rising from the ground and passing into the walls. Choosing this route will also involve the need to re-plaster the walls.
  • Structural Waterproofing: This system involves the incorporation of a drain membrane into the walls and floors. It is the best remedy for damp problems that are caused by high ground levels. Once the membrane has been installed, the presence of damp is managed as the moisture can run down the membrane and be channelled into a drain.
  • Cementitious Tanking: This process involves coating the internal walls of a property to seal moisture out of the home. This technique is useful for general moisture but ineffective for situations such as flooding. Three coats are applied and then the wall re-plastered.

Clean Concrete Floor

Cleaning tools

The best cleaning tools for cleaning interior concrete floors include a synthetic-bristled broom, a mop, mild cleansing liquid, and large old cotton towels. For exterior concrete make sure you have a synthetic-bristled broom, mild cleansing liquid, and a hose pipe at hand. If your flooring has stains, then have some bleach and dry laundry detergent at hand.

Basic cleaning

For basic cleaning of your concrete floor first take the synthetic-bristled broom and use it to gently scrub the floor, in order to dislodge any dust or debris trapped on the surface of the concrete. If you are working on an exterior floor, such as concrete driveways, your next step should be to hose down the entire floor surface area, to remove dust and debris and general dirt. You can wash the floor with some mild cleaning liquid if you wish, by pouring a mix of water and mild cleaning liquid onto the floor and gently scrubbing with the broom. Once finished, flush the area down with the hose again. Skip this step if working on an interior floor area. For interior flooring, use a mop with mild cleaning liquid instead. Mop the entire area until completely clean and then dry the floor with large old cotton towels (it is best to use cotton towels, as synthetic towels can scratch the surface of concrete).

Stain removal

For stains on exterior concrete flooring, you can apply diluted bleach. Pour the diluted mixture onto the stain and leave it for several minutes. After some minutes are up, pour hot water onto the stain and scrub with a synthetic-bristled brush. Continue repeating this method until the stain is removed. For interior stains, use a dry laundry detergent on the stain and leave to sit for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, scrub the stained area with hot water and a synthetic-bristled brush. Repeat until the stain is removed.

Seal treatment

In order to preserve your concrete floor, make sure that you use a floor sealing treatment every one to three years. A floor seal treatment will protect the concrete from wear and tear and from environmental factors that remove concrete perfection. Untreated floors can become prone to moisture damage, which can result in mold and mildew forming.

General maintenance

For general maintenance of your concrete floor, use a soft bristled brush to sweep over the area and to keep dust and debris from settling into the concrete. For interior flooring it is a good idea to use floor mats to cut down traffic damage, and use floor protectors on the legs of chairs and other pieces of furniture to prevent scores and scratches from forming.

Repair Zippo Lighter

What you need is a Zippo wick, flint and gas. So far we’re talking very low cash, as they are cheap and last a lot. The gas is apt to drain quickly, but the wick can last a year and the flint as well. It also depends on how often do you use it.

Open your Zippo and take out the main body from the cover. On the bottom you will notice a cap. You can use the edges of the Zippo metal cover to unscrew that cap. There’s an arc attached to the cap, because the metal tube that it covered is the housing of the flint. Put one piece of flint inside. You can put two, but chances are the friction will be too strong for the stone to actually spark it. Screw the cap back on. You’re done with the flint. It’s as easy as that.

Next, take out the wadding. It fills the entire body of the Zippo lighter. Its role is that it imbues with gas and stays wet for a long time. Be careful when you take it out, you will notice the wick is wrapped all around it. Try to remember its shape as you will have to reconstruct it later on. If there’s a lot of wick in there you don’t have to replace it. If you try to pry the wick out from the top of the lighter you will notice it won’t budge. That’s because of the wrapping around the cotton wool. You will have to gently disentangle it as you continue to remove the wadding. Once the entire wadding is out you can pry out the wick from the top of the lighter, right next to the flint. Take out the burned out part and then use a very sharp scissor to cut it away. You will notice a few copper wires wrapped inside, hence you need something sharp. If you had no good wick left at all, insert the new one inside. Next put the cotton wool back in, all the while wrapping the wick around it so it will get maximum of moisture all the time After you’re done, fill the wadding with gas, put the cover back on and your Zippo is as good as new.

About Sleeper Sofas

Function of The Room

If your home has an extra room that isn’t being used as a full-time bedroom, it may be convenient to use it as a sitting room most of the time, then convert it into a guest bedroom when you have visitors. It may also come in handy if you have friends over late, who would prefer to stay with you instead of driving home. However, if you are considering purchasing a sofa bed to be your predominant sleeping surface, make sure to thoroughly research the mattress type and try out a few options for comfort.

Cost Efficiency

If one of the main reasons for your purchase is your desire to entertain out-of-town visitors, be realistic about how many guests you will host in a year. However, if friends or family visit regularly, a sleeper sofa can be the perfect way to keep your guests comfortable while reducing hotel bills.

If you do decide to purchase a sleeper sofa, remember to look for one of the highest quality that will last you the longest time without malfunction. Additionally, make sure to look for a smooth, quiet mechanism for lifting the bed in and out. Finally, check that there are no sharp edges under the sleeping surface that may snag or rip your sheets.
